Snacks


Parents provide a nutritious snack for the students on a rotating basis. Winton Road Nursery School encourages healthy eating habits, and nutritious snacks are important to help children sustain energy throughout the day. We ask that your choices for snacks provide nutrition and energy rather than empty calories. We also try to restrict the sugar content to 10g or lower. Snacks should also be trans-fat-free and low in salt content.

Snack Guidelines

When it is your turn to provide snack, please bring:

  • MWF Morning Nursery Program: 40 portions, napkins, and 5 oz cups
  • T/TH Morning Nursery Program: 40 portions, napkins, and 5 oz cups
  • 4-Day AfternonProgram: 18 portions, napkins, and 5 oz cups
  • Young Nursery Program: 13 portions, napkins, and 5 oz cups

Water is provided for the students, so you do not need to bring a beverage If your child has a food allergy, please note this on the medical form.

If your child has a milk or peanut allergy (ingredients found in many foods), please provide a snack for your child. Under this circumstance, participation in the snack rotation is voluntary.

Keep in mind that home-baked snacks are not permitted because of Health Department regulations.

A refrigerator is available for storing snacks during the school day.

Teachers request that you provide only one flavor for those snacks with multiple flavor options to reduce disappointment among the children.

Snack Suggestions

Please choose two, from separate food groups:

Fruit and Vegetable List

  • Any fresh fruit (Apples, Bananas, Pears, Grapes, Oranges, Clementines, etc.)
  • Applesauce (unsweetened in single-serving cups)
  • Any vegetable (Baby Carrots, Celery, Cucumbers etc.) and dips
  • Raisins and other unsweetened dried fruit
  • Veggie chips/sticks

Grain List

  • Bagels/mini-bagels – plain, whole wheat
  • Cheddar Bunnies, Bunny Graham Friends, Bunny Grahams
  • Cereals: Puffins, Rice Chex, Kix cereal (plain), Cheerios (plain)
  • Graham Crackers
  • Baked, Whole Wheat Crackers
  • Pretzels
  • CoCo Pop MultiGrain Cakes (Wegmans)

Dairy

  • Yogurt
  • String Cheese
  • Cheddar Cheese

Please Avoid These Snacks

  • GoGurt (or any yogurt in tubes)
  • Food containing nuts
  • Chips
  • Snacks high in sugar or salt
  • Pop Tarts
  • Cookies
  • Cakes
  • Donuts
